Interview With TapDancing Fingers

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself? Your blog, and your aspirations and your hobbies!!

Okay, I'm a frustrated, slightly sadistic architecture student like everyone else in my field who chose blogging as a hobby to vent my anger and disappointment on my readers and sometimes share my random thoughts, hopes and aspiration of graduating without chugging out money (No, I swear to God, I've never done that.)Not that I don't love my course, but it can get on my nerves at times, and when it does, I know exactly what to do - Tap dancing on the keyboard!

2. How you first got involved in with blogging, are you an imaginative person?

Blogging was more of an 'experiment' towards discovering a new hobby. I would say I am an imaginative person considering the fact that my imagination starts running haywire when I start thinking about something. Sometimes people even find me jumping from one topic to another which frustrates them but then, I can't help it!

3. What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?

The fact that I don't write about a particular topic makes it challenging, because then I have to write on something as random as a pencil box in a way that doesn't put my readers to sleep as well as convey my opinion on it which should at least seem to be important.

4. Tell me about some of the people you have met while working on your blog?

Not many. Probably because I'm an introvert who likes to stay in her own world (I bet you're surprised now). But I have met some really interesting people in the only two IndiBlogger meets I've been to and via my blog's comment section.

5. How would (someone) describe your blogging style?

I blog about everything and anything that comes in my mind which gives me the freedom to just go on about something like my work on one day and maybe narrate a car accident on the next. So most people use the word 'random' for my blog.

6. What do you do when you are not working on your blog?

I am mostly trying to meet deadlines, completing assignments, sheets and models, wasting time, sleeping or just procrastinating my submissions to the last minute, and weirdly enough, that last minute is the time when I suddenly feel like blogging and I can't sit still till I have written a post. All calls and conversations are ignored during those 30 minutes.

7 .Where do you see yourself blogging wise in the next 6 months, and 5 years down the road?

6 months? I guess I'll probably be a few more posts older and maybe a bit wiser, sitting with my head high in front of my laptop.
5 months? Haven't been looking out that far.

8. What networking do you do that you feel helps your blogging business?

Firstly, I never give blogging the 'business' tag. It's my hobby, and there is only a limited time I can devote to it.
But any way, if you can't write stuff that is insanely funny, you can always spam you friends' Facebook homepage with links of your latest posts, or go around commenting on random posts just for the sake of having some more readers. (Not saying that I do all that, I have a strict 'Say something you actually feel or just shut up' policy)

9. How do you keep coming up with material/content for your blog? Many people struggle with coming up with different articles/posts and they only have one blog.

Like I said before (or maybe I didn't), even when I don't have something particular to write about, the urge to write gets so strong that I just keep writing about anything that comes in my mind. Sometimes, even the most simple daily activities and chores can seem interesting enough to write paragraphs about. So like I said, I write about anything and everything out there.

10. What’s your strategy with your blog in general?

Strategy? Uhmmmm...Did I mention that blogging is a hobby for me and I don't really get that beautiful time to plan out my blog's future?

11. Any specific tips you have for newbie bloggers who want to make it in the blogosphere?

Write what you want to write, not what you think others want to read. Kindly use the mind boggling feature called spell check in MS Word if you're unsure of your writing skills. Be yourself and don't judge your blog on the basis of the number of readers you get, at least not during the first few months (which was my case).

12. What would you prioritize? Content? SEO? Traffic? Readers?

I love Readers, I really do. But the content is what brings them (and traffic) to the blog.

13. What’s the best thing a blogger can give to his readers?

A good laugh, something new to think about, an opinion, an emotional experience or just a good way to pass his time.

14. A lot of people are interested in blogging for the money earning potential. What are some tips for people interesting in making money from blogging? What are some realistic expectations in regards to what can be made?

Tips? You're asking the wrong person. I have zilch experience in that field. My blog is strictly my space which runs the way I want it to and I want it to stay that way.

15. What motivates you most in life?

Experiences, hopes, desires and failures.

16. What has been your strategy for creating visibility to yourself and your blog?

Visiting other blogs, sharing opinions and respecting them, writing original content and posting links on social networking sites like IndiBlogger, Facebook etc.

17 What was the most challenging moment in your blog content development process and why?

There always comes that point when you feel like you don't have anything to write about, and the more you avoid writing because of that reason, the harder it becomes to get back to blogging. That happens with me at times and that is the time when my blog posts are written just for the heck of it and sometimes, they even look like it.

18. Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?

Best - It's hard to point at one. It's like asking a mum to pick her favourite kid out of her swarm of 80.
Worst - I got two. I probably won't make the best mum in the world. :/
·         http://tapdancingfingers.wordpress.com/2012/09/29/india-todays-mind-rocks-youth-summit-2012/  It went so long that I got bored reading it.
·         http://tapdancingfingers.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/my-blog-turns-1/ It was just for the heck of it.

19. Name some of the bloggers whom you look up to and why?

I religiously follow bloggers like:
·         IHM (Life and Times of an Indian Homemaker) who has a strong opinion which is to the point.
·         Sankara Jayanth (Black and White Heart) who has an emotionally stirring take on a lot of things in life.
·         Leo (I rhyme without reason) who writes beautiful poems.
·         Don Mills(The problem with young people today is...) who's got an insane and awesome sense of humour.
·         Athenian and a Berliner (Hovercraftdoggy) who make me go "Ooohh" and "awesome!" with their creative stuff.
·         Craptivate - the bunch of bloggers who make me crack up everytime.

20. What is the story behind the name of the blog?

Being my first and only blog, I admit to have spent about 20 minutes just thinking of a name for my blog and fortunately, I came up with one which does amuse people a bit. I named it 'Tap Dancing Fingers' because I feel that writing is a beautiful thing, like dance which has the ability to move you, quite literally (hopefully because of laughter, or maybe the urge to just wring my neck. Whichever way you go).

21. Your connection with any Blogger Network like Indi blogger or Writeupcafe or any other and the experience?

I got on the IndiBlogger network almost an year back and haven't looked back since. It is parallel universe where I can find so many bloggers with varied interests with the opportunity to interact with them. Going to those few IndiBlogger meets have made me feel like a part of a huge family, where barriers like distance and strangerness (not sure if that's a word) don't come in between.

22. Which genre do you feel gets the raw deal?

Probably blogs on social causes, fiction and poetry.

23. Which one plug-in would you suggest all bloggers to have?

Follow via email

24. Five adjectives that describe you.

Creative
Sarcastic
Funny
Honest
Unpredictable

25. What book would you say has made the biggest impact good or bad on you?

I don't read that much. *Now I'm feeling a bit awkward.*

26. Do you get easily provoked by positive/negative comments??

Not really. I like reading positive ones, but the negative ones help me improve my writing. It's all good unless people get personal (which they never do, at least not on my blog).

27. Do you plan to write a book, as every bloggers dream it is?

Not really, because a book needs time to devoted to it along with a lot of hard work, and I lack the former. So I day dream away instead.

28. Are you a judgmental person, do you prefer to take sides instead of standing neutral?

Yes, I am judgemental to some extent. I prefer having an opinion about everything rather than standing somewhere in the middle.

29. Your collaboration with other bloggers, are you much into social networking, tell us everything about it?

I've never had a guest post on my blog or written one for any other blog. I'm slightly more rooted towards the real world rather than the virtual one. Though I've made a few really good friends via the blogosphere.

30. What genre attracts you the most and which genre you avoid?

I find fiction the most appealing and like most bloggers, I tend to refrain from tech reviews, or subjects I don't have knowledge about.

31. Your Views on Contests and increasing plagiarism?

Contests are a great way to interact with fellow bloggers and experiment with your writing as you are made to step out of your genre and try a new one.
Plagiarism is what people do when they weigh popular material over individuality which is sad. What is the point of writing when you're simply copy-pasting someone else's thoughts? That is a brutal way of killing the joy of writing.

32. Words for me and my blog.

I really like the idea of having blogger interviews. It lets you know more about so many people from different genres and gives them a platform to talk about their blog. All the best to you and thank you for having me here. :)

33. On winning the Award/s, Are they Really necessary.

Awards are encouraging and make you feel good, but one shouldn't

take them to the head because that ultimately destroys the fun in writing. I think a blogger can always survive without an award.

Cheers!!

Interview with The Readers Cosmos

1.Can you tell us a little about yourself? Your blog, and your aspirations and your hobbies!!

I am Nimi, a PhD student who tries to understand how the body defends itself from infection (immunology). I being a complete bookworm, my blog thereaderscosmos.blogspot.com is all about Books (reviews, interviews with authors, publishers, etc).  I aspire to be all a Scientist ,a Writer and an Entrepreneur, for the later I have already begun with book promotions online since last year and it has been a great journey so far.

2.
2.How you first got involved in with blogging, are you an imaginative person?

I always wrote reviews of books I read on Flipkart, etc. Few of my friends found my reviews very useful and I saved some pocket money being spent on the wrong books, therefore they didn’t leave bugging me until I gave in to writing detailed reviews on a blog. Imagination is the color of life. I love reading and writing (only for myself) and therefore I live  more in fiction than reality.

3.    3   What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?

The most challenging issue is when an author you have loved comes up with a not so good book and you have to write an honest review.  I loved Ashwin Sanghi’s Chanakya’s Chant and recommended, in fact forced people to buy it. But when I read The Krishna Key, I didn’t enjoy it, reasons here http://thereaderscosmos.blogspot.in/2012/10/the-krishna-key-by-ashwin-sanghi.html.  I did manage to write what I felt without being biased.

4.Tell me about some of the people you have met while working on your blog?

Well I am lucky to have been in touch personally with some of the most well renowned authors such as Ashwin Sanghi, Indu Sundaresan, Jeet Thayil, Ravi Subramanian, etc. They have been a constant source of knowledge, inspiration and support.

I also have made great friends and gurus in the literary world, would be unfair to name a few. To sum it all up, what more can one ask for than be surrounded by creative geniuses?

5. How would (someone) describe your blogging style?
Ask Someone not me ;).

6.What do you do when you are not working on your blog?
I do my PhD :P. Apart from that I love to watch movies, series and dance.

7 .Where do you see yourself blogging wise in the next 6 months, and 5 years down the road?
Never thought of that, I live in the moment.

8. What networking do you do that you feel helps your blogging business?
I do believe that Social networking via facebook and twitter helps the most and therefore I have worked very hard to make my presence on these portals.

9. How do you keep coming up with material/content for your blog? Many people struggle with coming up with different articles/posts and they only have one blog.
I review books so it is not difficult.  I have again been lucky here to have been liked by both publishers and authors who send more books to review than I can read.

10. Whats your strategy with your blog in general?
Be original and innovative. My blog was the first ever online portal that interviewed publishers (http://thereaderscosmos.blogspot.in/search/label/Publisher%20On%20The%20HOT%20SEAT). I also did “Read Along” sessions with very prominent blogger friends like TheReaddicts etc.

11. Any specific tips you have for newbie bloggers who want to make it in the blogosphere?
Be sincere and regular.

12. What would you prioritize? Content? SEO? Traffic? Readers?
Content>Readers>Traffic>SEO

13. Whats the best thing a blogger can give to his readers?
 Honest piece of work.

14. A lot of people are interested in blogging for the money earning potential. What are some tips for people interesting in making money from blogging? What are some realistic expectations in regards to what can be made?
All one has to ensure is readership to earn and for that again the quality and the novelty of the content you provide matters. Blogging can surely take care of your pocket money.

15. What motivates you most in life?
Doing something good and/or innovative.

16. What has been your strategy for creating visibility to yourself and your blog?
Being very active on Facebook and Twitter.

17 What was the most challenging moment in your blog content development process and why?
Nothing

18. Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?
One I love the book as it belongs to my favourite “Mughal Era”. Two, it’s the first book (that I reviewed on my blog) to score 5/5 from me, I believe that explains it all J.

19. Name some of the bloggers whom you look up to and why?
Their reviews are honest, detailed and they have a lot of innovative activities like Read Along going on. Above all they are very approachable and have been patient in answering the dumbest of my queries.
He gives very balanced reviews and that is very helpful to debutants who are often badly trashed rather than explained where they could improve upon.

20. What is the story behind the name of the blog?
Interesting Question! I wanted a name that was unique, scientific and had a meaning that encompasses “everything”, therefore The Readers Cosmos .i.e The Universe for Readers.

21. Your connection with any Blogger Network like Indi blogger or Writeupcafe or any other and the experience?
I have been an Indiblogger since the beginning. Their meets are the most fruitful as one gets to interact with a lot of fellow bloggers, learnt a lot from them.

I believe every genre has its own place and audience.

I have very strong opinions about things I have knowledge of.

29. Your collaboration with other bloggers, are you much into social networking, tell us everything about it?
I run a review program to help authors get genuine critique from quality bloggers called The Readers Cosmos Review Program. I have sent books to about 50 bloggers so far for reviewing. The association has been amazing.
Also I conducted Read Along Session of Left From Dhakeshwari by Kunal Sen with help from pioneers in the field The Readdicts, Ankita Singhal (http://booklokcoffee.blogspot.in) and Fahima M (http://me24x7.blogspot.in). It was great to not just read but discuss the book in detail.

30. What genre attracts you the most and which genre you avoid?
I love reading stories and poetries therefore these are the blog genres I love. Though I love gadgets I just don’t love to read about them much, so I visit them only when I have to purchase one.

31. Your Views on Contests and increasing plagiarism?
I believe Contests are no harm and are a good means of promotion. Plagiarism on the other hand is a crime and we have to figure out strict ways to prevent it.

32. Words for me and my blog.
Your blog is unique and very systematic. It is great resource for beginners. Keep it up.

33. On winning the Award/s , Are they Really necessary.

Well an award is of course gives a great sense of achievement and encouragement; however my true reward is somebody completely unrelated writing to you, to inquire what book should be his/her next read or an author benefitting from an honest feedback.

Interview with Indiblogger Award Winner Liz

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself? Your blog, and your aspirations and your hobbies!!

Well I have three blogs - one is www.madamletmetellyouonething.com, my personal blog about my foolish life in India. One is my food blog, www.notgotmuchin.com for the busy person with not time to cook who's after never fail healthy recipes, and my company blog, www.blog.rethinkretreats.com, which is about life coaching and career tips.

They keep me busy but I love writing or working on them with my team (my business blog isn't all me writing them).

I've lived in India 3 and a half years and it's been a delight blogging about it.

2. How you first got involved in with blogging, are you an imaginative person?
I worked in film for 20 years doing lighting for visual FX so I do consider myself to be creative. I love to write and as foolish things happened to me here, I wanted to share them with other people.

3. What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?
Getting enough time to write - I have so many ideas I'd like to post, but it's getting time to fit it all in.

4. Tell me about some of the people you have met while working on your blog?
Recently I've been meeting more people who want to work with me because of the blog - and it's great to feel opportunities are starting because of it.

I get fan mail now, which was a surprise at first and very flattering. And I'm getting used to beginning to tell a story when I'm out and for someone to say - oh yes I read about that on your blog. it takes a while to get used to being known and popular. I can see how it would get to turn your head if it happens a lot.

5. How would (someone) describe your blogging style?
Informal. And possibly badly punctuated!

6. What do you do when you are not working on your blog?
I'm a life coach and I run a company helping people find their perfect career, start a business and if they fancy it, become location independent. I can work from anywhere in the world, and it's lovely helping other people get to the same place.

7 .Where do you see yourself blogging wise in the next 6 months, and 5 years down the road?
Well I'm going to continue blogging of course, and I'd like to build my subscriber base up. I want to reward loyal readers more directly - maybe special content for them, that sort of thing.

8. What networking do you do that you feel helps your blogging business?

I'm part of a few networking groups for work, and that indirectly helps my blogging.

9. How do you keep coming up with material/content for your blog? Many people struggle with coming up with different articles/posts and they only have one blog.
I must confess I have the opposite problem - I have so many ideas, I can't keep up with writing them. I find India very inspiring and easy to write about.

10. Whats your strategy with your blog in general?
Write from the heart and share my love and amusement of the country and people will understand that. And people seem to be responding well to that.

11. Any specific tips you have for newbie bloggers who want to make it in the blogosphere?
Write a blog plan - and stick to it. Once you've got a month ahead in your blog you can relax and will feel a lot less pressure each week

12. What would you prioritize? Content? SEO? Traffic? Readers?
Content is king for me. And that will bring readers. Good SEO is of course important, but no one wants to read keyword rich articles that mean nothing - it's got to be good content first of all.

13. Whats the best thing a blogger can give to his readers?
Really solid writing, entertainment and information on the topic they're writing about. I find it annoying when people really wander off topic without excusing them selves. People come for your topic, give that to them - or start another blog!

14. A lot of people are interested in blogging for the money earning potential. What are some tips for people interesting in making money from blogging? What are some realistic expectations in regards to what can be made?
Apparently most bloggers earn a tiny amount - but with anything if you have a large readership you can make money. Great content, don't over monetize or advertise and respect your reader.

15. What motivates you most in life?
Love - not romantic love - but love from the heart to make change and have an impact by supporting people. It might sound trite, but it really is why I'm here: to show people that anything is possible, no matter what you've been through

16. What has been your strategy for creating visibility to yourself and your blog?
I've not done too much of that - but guest blogging and more video is our way forward.

17 What was the most challenging moment in your blog content development process and why?
I'm dyslexic - so I have to be very careful about spelling. I often miss or fail on that.

18. Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?
My favourite post is about the ridiculous trouble I had having a massive painting hung on the wall of my apartment. It was a complete comedy of errors. Even now it makes me giggle when I read it. And it's often the post I send people to when I introduce them to my blog - http://www.madamletmetellyouonething.com/nearly-straight/

19. Name some of the bloggers whom you look up to and why?
Marketing and business wise I like Marie Forleos work and there are many food blogs I mouthwateringly follow. Jeremy Dean of Psyblog is always fascinating as well - he shares psych research to explain our basic human behaviours. It's entertaining, and it's always fascinating.

20. What is the story behind the name of the blog?
Madam, let me tell you one thing - is what I hear most often… directly before some bad news. If you spend time in Bangalore, you hear it a lot.

21. Your connection with any Blogger Network like Indi blogger or Writeupcafe or any other and the experience?
Always good to get exposure and there are keen readers at all the indian blog and travel blog spots. Some of my sweetest and kindest readers are from these sites. People are very kind

22. Which genre do you feel gets the raw deal?
Actually one of the things I love about blogging is that every one can blog on any subject. So very small niche subjects can have their Hemingways. it's kind of beautiful.

23. Which one plug-in would you suggest all bloggers to have?
Facebook comments

24. Five adjectives that describe you.
Amused, foolish, quick, entertained, bookish

25. What book would you say has made the biggest impact good or bad on you?
1984

26. Do you get easily provoked by positive/negative comments??

Well no one likes haters - but it usually reflects more about their own state of mind than on what they hate. So although I haven't' had many negative comments I brush it off quite easily. And of course, it's always a delight to get positive feedback; obviously those readers are particularly discerning.

27. Do you plan to write a book, as every bloggers dream it is?

I already have! http://www.amazon.com/Cake-12-healthy-cakes-ebook/dp/B00DJWLU8M/ My food blog did a book of healthy cakes last year and we're launching a new on in a few weeks. This one is all about easy cakes which create very little clean up

28. Are you a judgmental person, do you prefer to take sides instead of standing neutral?

I'm a coach, so I like to see all sides and bring people together

29. Your collaboration with other bloggers, are you much into social networking, tell us everything about it?
I regularly guest blog and this is an area I am increasing. I network with other bloggers and it's always lovely

30. What genre attracts you the most and which genre you avoid?
I read a to of food and self development blogs. I avoid some of the bitchier comment blogs. That's just not who I am.

31. Your Views on Contests and increasing plagiarism?

Plagarism is never good - but I think that almost always you can tell when things are stolen, and it only reflects badly on the thief. It's a shallow thing to do and really has little long term gain for your brand. As to contests… well, obviously I'm in favour of those, eh?

32. Words for me and my blog.

Fun, entertaining, informative, funny but true

33. On winning the Award/s?

I'd like to thank the people who kindly voted for me. Obviously you're smarter and better looking than those that didn't. thank you!

I judge all the sides, but try to stand neutral.

29. Your collaboration with other bloggers, are you much into social networking, tell us everything about it?

I made very good friends through blogosphere and social networking. I’ve got more friends in virtual world than in real world.

30. What genre attracts you the most and which genre you avoid?

As I said earlier, I don’t know much about other genres. But I love all genres related to poetry and art.

31. Your Views on Contests and increasing plagiarism?

Contests make me think out of the box, they make me write differently from the way I usually write. On the other hand, makes me feel restless until the results are announced. On Plagiarism – A serious threat to originality and creativity. It’s so cheap to steal others works and call them as theirs. I pity those people who try to impress others using some others works because they can’t maintain the impression they create for long.

32. Words for me and my blog.

I liked your idea of conducting blogger interviews. Hope you come up with many such ideas in future. All the best J
