Inter - Religion marriage still taboo among indians

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
Inter - Religion marriage still taboo among Indians,This is the easiest Topic to talk about in India. But yes the opinion will vary from every single individual.Even the movies in India are actually thinking about the topic.A partner Choice is very difficult for everyone to make with the caste system in India. And Its very difficult to go against and think what would you be doing after you go against the society.

In India until the 19th century what was followed was the legacy system which was related to surnames and castes. For example A baniya son will get married in his caste system and so does the son of a priest which were considered to get married with in their caste. But the situation was more tricky and is still quite dangerous If we talk about Inter religion Marriages.

We as a society have still not grown up to the fact that our thoughts should also be independent in regards to what partner choice we should have.We still hear cases of Honor killings when we talk about inter caste marriages and when we Talk about Inter religion marriages things are even worse.

From Wikipedia :

The Manoj-Babli honour killing case was the honour killing of Indian newlyweds Manoj Banwala and Babli in June 2007 and the successive court case which historically convicted defendants for an honour killing. The killing was ordered by a khap panchayat (khap), a religious caste-based council among Jatts, in their Karora village in Kaithal district, Haryana.
I am from Haryana and I simply cant forget what happened on those days.It was simply insane.

The Other AspectsInter Religion Marriages still have many hurdles even if they get the society approval.Look at what would have happened with the couples after 9/11.They had to be mentally strong to face the society as well to maintain their own calmness. There is a No faith Era growing up in the west mainly in Britain where people don't have faith on any particular religion and are living happy. We all need community and family connections on one hand, but if that becomes problematic, that isolation can have profound effects.

There is another story of a Nepali guy who married a Bengali Girl had to Run to save their lives,They currently are running a Restaurant near my place , I will surely write about them one day.

I am not sure where we all are headed to but I guess we should be open about the partner choice.Even if fifty percent of youth actually start educating the society about openness in partner choice I guess the problem will be resolved So lets take a pledge that instead of crying on the problem lets see how can we remove/Improve it.

And yes this is again a contribution to the Indispire Topics.

  7. Love can win over everything ...but not in this country ( and in many other countries as well) ..the Manoj-Babli honour killing is a proof to that along with hundreds of similar cases which remain unregistered.

But times are changing..slowly but surely..the future will be brighter I hope...
    Nicely expressed...great post.. :-)

  8. This is an important post. Honor killings give me shivers. Two extreme emotions in a conflict. One side love so powerful that it can clearly see through boundaries created by man and on the other hand an ego so vile that it ignores the right to let live..

  12. Honor killing for the sake of caste & religion is not acceptable at all ...people should live and allow others who are willing to have inter- faith or inter-caste marraige have their own life ... Religion is personal choice and it should not intefere with Society !...nice post :)
