Interview with Nehali Lalwani

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself, and your aspirations and your hobbies!!

I’m Nehali Lalwani, Asst. Professor by profession and a writer by heart. I have completed my B.com honors, Diploma in Labor Practices and Masters of human Resource Management.

I’m a big dreamer and an aspiring writer.

 I simply love to pen down my sentiments and feelings in form of poetry and quotes. I believe it is zeal; an urge; something that gives me an opportunity to express myself and my views. I basically write when I’m happy; when I’m furious or when any issue strokes my heart.

I have fine collection of poems and short stories on different emotional genres. My short stories are published in Kaleidoscope by Parlance Publishers, 2 poems got published in Moods and moments- Poetry book by Writers Empire, Syahi as a Writer and Co Editor, A Night in paradise – Omji publishing house, Minds @ work 2 – First step publishingways, You me and Zindagi – Omji publishing house and few more are slated to be published in the first half of this year.

Besides all I love to read love stories and listening Music in her spare time.

2. How you first got involved in with writing, are you an imaginative person?

Well, this one of my favorite question to answer. Yes I’m a big day dreamer.  I perceive my dreams as my major possessions. They simply prompt me to believe in myself.Basically I write inspiring quotes and sometimes poems too..

Umm.. Exactly even I do not know when did I got indulged into writing, I use to pen down inspirational quotes and poems during college days and with the passage of time I started reading diverse authors from there I just got fascinated towards writing. I than wrote stories (Basically which gives some positive lesson or motivates you to do better in your life) and they luckily got selected.

3. What do you find most challenging about writing about your topic?

Well to be honest I think writing something directly from your heart will never ever be a challenging task. To be frank, I have never taken writing as a profession/business, I scribble my views and observation in form of poetries, stories and quotes which gives me a sense of contentment.

But yes while writing short stories & to stick upon to the “WORDCOUNT” provided to us, is the most challenging task I believe. To explain our outlook with some proficient touch with restricted words, is definitely something not so easy task.

4. Tell me about some of the people you have met from writing world?

I have not met many writers and bloggers in real,  I have met (My fellow writers at Kaleidoscope) Vivek banerjee, Bhavya Kaushik, Shishir Dhingra, Prabhat Singh, Khushi Gupta, Shilpi Dutta, Ayush Agarwal, Neoni Dsouza and Salli Shah.

5. How would (someone) describe your writing style?

Tough question, well it totally depends on the person reading it. I personally believe my writing is all about positivity, my only motive behind writing stories nowadays is A reader should flip a page without searching for a dictionary (Well jokes Apart) A reader should be smiling while he ends up with my story that’s all.

6. What do you do when you are not writing?

As I mentioned earlier I’m Asst professor by profession.  Rest I like to read (My favorite genres are Romance and horror) and I spend time with my family and friends as much as I can.

7 .Where do you see yourself writing wise in the next 6 months, and 5 years down the road?

Being a gigantic Day dreamer, I have a dream of coming up my with my favorite project in next few months that’s my novel, and I wish and I think I will develop myself as a writer and poet in future.

8. What networking do you do that you feel helps your writing business?

Umm…  I’m connected with Face book, Linkedin and Goodreads but that is just to be in contact with my friends, writers and readers.

Social networking has helped me a lot to know different authors personally, but promoting a book on Fb or Twitter and expecting to be it a Best Seller, I reli don’t think so it helps out anyway.

I personally don’t feel one can do any business on social networking sites.

9. How do you keep coming up with content/ ideas for your stories? Many people struggle with coming up with different ideas.

Interesting question, I mostly write my own experiences and I comprise the incidents which I observe or listen from my near and dear ones in form of stories and quotes.

10. What’s your strategy with your writing in general?

Write for your own satisfaction and not just to impress others, at the end of the day when you read your own words you yourself should feel good about it. This is my strategy and I hope it helps others too.

11. Any specific tips you have for newbie writers who want to make it in the writing world?

Funny question! I consider myself as a Newbie in writing world.

12. What’s the best thing a writer can give to his readers?

A reason to smile or a reason to live and lead a positive life along with plentiful encouraging thoughts to reach up to their dreams.

14. A lot of people are interested in writing for the money earning potential. What are some tips for people interesting in making money from writing? What are some realistic expectations in regards to what can be made?

Writing for money is not wrong at all. Most people write because it’s their zeal and few write because it’s their option of earning.

The only advice or suggestion to them is keep participating in different contests held by good publishers as they pay writers for their stories or one can also try for content writing and lastly keep experimenting with different genres that will actually enhance your potential as a writer.

15. What motivates you most in life?

Preeti shenoy’s book – Life is what you make it, Ravinder Singh’s book – Stories that touched my Heart, The Namesake - Jhumpa Lahiri, and The Secret - Rhonda Byrne these are few of the books which have inspired me to write, prove myself and my potential. And I must congratulate for the wonderful work you are doing by interviewing different people and giving them chance to share their opinions honestly.

My Dreams and my faith in them, my Parents who supported me in each every phase of my life and all those  people who told me that I’m good for nothing.

16. What has been your strategy for creating visibility to yourself and your writing?

Not any such strategy I have ever used to be in lime light, I never write to earn fame. I write for myself and my family who loves to see my name in Index Column of the Book.

18. Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?

My story featured in an anthology Kaleidoscope by Parlance Publishers is my most favorite one.

Title - Alive inside it is my first ever work which got selected and published and it gave me an identity as an author.

Sorry but I don’t have any least favorite work because I simply love what I scribble down.

19. Name some of the writers whom you look up to and why?

Authors I personally know, respect and admire are Vivek Banerjee, Prateek Singh, Bhavya Kaushik, Preeti Singh, Arpita Ghosh and few more.

I simply love the way they play with words.

Few Authors I love to read are Salman Rushdie, Durjoy dutta, Ashwin Sanghi,  Jhumpa Lahiri, Preeti Shenoy, Ravinder Singh and any more the list is quite long.

25. What book would you say has made the biggest impact good or bad on you?

26. Do you get easily provoked by positive/negative comments??

No, never!  Whosoever, reads your work have some or the other expectations from it.

It is not practically possible to reach up to their expectations every time. Moreover, I feel perceptions differ.Some might find it mesmerizing while some find it a crap.. I respect their individual opinions, but then It doesn’t provoke me anyhow.

27. Do you plan to write a book, as every bloggers dream it is?

Yes, I am working on my novel. Its title is “Feelings… Still remaining” I’m planning to come up with it in next few months.

Fingers crossed.

28. Are you a judgmental person, do you prefer to take sides instead of standing neutral?

Nope! I don’t think I’m judgmental, but yes if an individual is my friend I would absolutely take his/her side.

Additionally it totally depends on the situation.

30. What genre attracts you the most and which genre you avoid?

I love to read Romance and Horror. I personally don’t like much of History and Science fiction.

31. Your Views on Contests and increasing plagiarism?

I feel the writing industry has totally lost its charm, Publishers are doing nothing but purely business in course of earning money plus they obviously be bias while selecting writers.

I personally love to participate in contests.

Contests, if conducted appropriately can persuade writers to do better.

33. On winning the Award/s , Are they Really necessary.

Nope! I don’t wish to win any such award for my writing, I write for my own satisfaction and happiness and if any day I get a mail or a message saying I got inspired from your any of the quotes or story I feel that would be the biggest award I can ever receive.
